Anti-bullying School Assemblies

School Assembly / School AssembliesKeith Deltano has performed school assemblies throughout the United States.  You will want to bring him in for your school assembly because he brings the background of a public educator and combines it with the presentation of a comedian.  Keith will use Serious Comedy to capture student’s attentionat your school assembly.

Why do you want to bring Keith Deltano in for your school assembly?

  • Comedy is an effective tool and grabs the attention of the students.  Comedy is also a powerful memorization strategy.  People tend to remember what they laughed at as well as the context the laughter occurred.  As an award winning public classroom teacher, Keith used comedy to help students memorize mathematical concepts.  He will use comedy to help your students remember how to fight bullying.
  • Comedy is cross cultural – Keith has been effective in very culturally and ethnically diverse settings.
  • Keith can adjust his show to meet the needs of different grade levels. Each assembly is adjusted to meet the developmental level of those in attendance. Keith will also adjust his content to deal with what is happening at each school.
  • Keith’s school assemblies have impact. He has received many letters form administrators testifying to the long term affect Keith’s school assemblies have had on their student body and school culture.
  • Keith’s assemblies are interactive.  Several students will join Keith on stage to participate in “skits” he conducts throughout the assembly.  Students are riveted when one of them is helping deliver the message.
  • Keith is one of the most booked and rebooked school assembly speakers in the country.
  • He has been making people laugh and learn since 1990 and has built a reputation for being easy to work with and delivering quality school assemblies.  Check out his references.
  • One of the main reasons schools book Keith is results.  Your staff and students will thank you for bringing in Keith.
  • Keith can combine teacher and parent workshops with a school assembly tour. His background as an award winning public educator gives him credibility with one of the toughest audiences on the planet: public school teachers.

Keith Deltano has served and worked with youth for many years in various roles, including as a military police officer, public school teacher, youth leader, private counselor, and educational comedian. His school assemblies have impacted thousands throughout the country.  He draws on this varied background to reach out and share with youth. Keith taught sixth grade and won the Teaching Excellence Award for his work with at risk youth. He has been listed in Who’s Who of America’s Teachers and Outstanding Young Men of America. He was granted The National Impact Award for his work in parent outreach and education.  He has presented school assemblies throughout the nation.

What makes Keith's Vitual School Assembly Different?

Keith's school assembly goes beyond the bystander/bully/victim labels to get at the underlying causes of bullying.  Keith uses comedy to show students why they do what they do. Keith's background in public education gives him insight into school culture.  The "mean girls," status clothes, "in" group and cliques will all come under his comedic wit during his school assemblies.  Keith challenges the youth and adults in the audience to seriously contemplate how they view one another.   His school assembly is about acceptance, making new friends by reaching out, and encouraging the audience to stop judging one another by outward appearance, speech, or economic status.  His school assemblies will change lives.

Keith talks about trash throwing and trash catching, haters and hate catching, bullies and spectators.  He takes the unusual approach of addressing the mindset of the catcher as well as the thrower.  He will inspire those that have been bullied and force the bullies to take a harsh look at why they do what they do.  The students that have “caught it” because they learn differently or struggle academically and socially will come away especially inspired. Keith’s school assembly will be entertaining, inspiring, and educational.

Will Keith's School Assembly address online bullying?

Physical, verbal, and online bullying all have the same root causes and manifestations. Keith addresses online bullying by exposing the causes of all bullying and prejudice behaviors.  During his school assemblies he also talks about the legal ramifications of on and offline bullying. The audience will understand that bullying can be interpreted as “threatening” or “violent” behavior even if physical contact is not made.

Does he do more than school assemblies? What about parent outreach and teacher education?

Keith has performed parent workshops on bullying and online safety throughout the US.  His workshops can be custom tailored to whatever is happening in your community.  However, Keith feels that no workshop is complete without teaching parents how to protect their children form online porn and gambling as well as bullying.  Most parents are simply not aware of what is “online” and the activities that children are engaged in online.  The tools and strategies Keith will teach parents to use to prevent online bullying will also be used to prevent online porn and gambling addiction.  Parent will walk away from Keith’s assembly with strategies they can immediately put into action

Keith also conducts a workshop for teachers called “bully proof your classroom”.  He gives teachers insight on how to create a bully free environment.  This is not just theory; these are techniques that Keith actually used in his classroom.  Keith will also prep teachers on what to do if bullying does occur in their class or school environment. He will also teach them how to respond when a parent call after a bullying incident has occurred.

Does Keith’s school assembly deal with kids that have “educational” labels?

Keith stayed back in the third grade because he could not read…and he could hardly read the second time through.  He was given every label in the book; ADD, ADHD, dyslexic, and dysgraphic.  He struggled through school and spent a lot of time in “special” classes and “special” programs.  Keith over came the professional labels as well as the taunting that comes with “staying back” and special programming and went on to make Deans’ list in college.  As a result of his experiences, Keith has a heart for the audiences most speakers avoid. He shares this story during his school assemblies.   He wants to talk to the kids in juvenile detention, alternative schools or tracks, or any other group of students that doesn’t fit in because they do not learn “like everybody else”.  Keith has a school assembly that only they will understand that he does not present to the general school audience.  He doesn’t have a name for this show because it is different every time he does it and it’s more like a conversation.  If you have such a group in mind, please include them in his tour.  He is comfortable with “special needs” kids…he was one.  Actually…he still does not fit in.

How is the School Assembly Different in the Fall?

The beginning of the school year offers a unique window. Think of a school assembly in the fall as preemptive. The students get new lockers, new classes, new teachers…it is a time of change.  It is also a great time to change attitudes.  Students are more open to behavioral change at the beginning of the year than any other time of the school year.  This is not to say that school culture can not be changed or addressed in the spring, it’s just harder.  When Keith is performing his assenbly in schools during August, September, and October, he modifies the show in order to take advantage of the fact that it is the beginning of a new school year and as such, a great time to change behaviors and attitudes.  Students want to have a “better year than last year”…they just don’t know how.

How is the School Assembly Different in the Spring?

If a school assembly in the fall is preemptive, then a school assembly after the Christmas break tends to be reactive.    Keith's experience as a teacher taught him that the spring months tend to be more "challenging" in terms of student social behavior.  Negative Patterns have been established, standardized testing is taking place and the students have been together for several months: it can be a tense time when students act out in unhealthy ways. In the second half of the year Keith is often brought in to stop rather then prevent bullying behavior.  This is when Keith's experience as an award winning public school teacher will come in handy.  He can spend time on the phone with school administrators prior to the event to find out exactly what is happening on their campus or in their system.  These conversations will be kept confidential and Keith will modify his bullying assemblies to meet the individual community’s needs.

How Do I Make a School Assembly Tour Happen?

Prices for school assemblies vary depending on location and area tours.  If Keith is already in the area then costs will be lower because travel expenses are shared.  Quoted prices are all inclusive; they include travel, lodging, and food costs, so you will know your total budget before booking.  There will be no surprises.  Keith will do up to FOUR assemblies per day.  This allows you to "share" him with other schools or even school systems in order to reduce costs.  Please contact Keith's officefor a quote.

What about Drug and Alcohol prevention?

Keith also has a anti drug and alcohol school assembly. Using his customary interaction Keith will bring home the harsh realities of drug and alcohol use.  Using his experience as a Military Police Officer Keith will stage a “traffic stop” in front of his audience.  This will end with a “suspect” handcuffed face down on the “side of the road”.  The students will be forced to acknowledge the incredible risks they take when experimenting with drugs and alcohol.  Keith will graphically dismantle the idea that “It won’t happen to me” and make the negative consequences real.  Keith’s anti drug and alcohol school assembly will impact your students’ decision making in a positive way.

What are Keith’s school assembly requirements?

Keith needs a cordless hand held microphone for his assemblies.  If one is not available then he needs a mike with a very long cord.  (Keith travels far out into the audience to interact with students). He needs five chairs on stage.  (Can be simple folding chairs.)  Because his style of interactive comedy uses a lot of energy, Keith would appreciate a few bottled waters. There is no limit to audience size; however the whole audience must fit in front of him.  Ex, they cannot be on both sides of the gym.   If working in an auditorium, Keith likes to meet with the sound and lighting crew prior to the show in order to get everything “right”.  That’s it; a microphone that allows him to travel, bottled water, good lighting,  an audience on one side and five chairs.
